Auburn's Coach Tuberville accepts Pigskin Fan Poll Trophy

Pigskin Fan Poll has announced its first annual NCAA Men's Football National Championship winner as Auburn University. The trophy was presented to the Auburn University football players and Coach Tommy Tuberville during the Parade of Champions celebration at Toomer's Corner on January 15, 2005 in downtown Auburn. An estimated 12,000 fans turned out to celebrate the Tigers' unprecedented 13-0 season.

The basis of Pigskin Fan Poll is the belief that if votes determine participants in a championship, fans should have a voice in that system. Rather than just set up a "Who should be #1" poll, it was decided to create a poll emulating the actual BCS system. To ensure 100% accountability in all votes received, Pigskin Fan Poll created a registration system that allows only one vote per verified registered e-mail address. Pigskin Fan Poll is the only poll on the Internet that uses e-mail verification registration and eliminates all multiple votes from the same e-mail address.

Being the inaugural year for a national fan poll, the objective of Pigskin Fan Poll was to get the voting opportunity out to all fans across the country. Promotion through ESPN.com, FoxSports.com, CollegeSports.com, and national sports call-in shows created votes from over 30 states across the U.S.

Voters on Pigskin Fan Poll were allowed to register and then rank the Top 10 BCS teams. The final national championship vote was opened at midnight, January 4 and closed at midnight on January 8, 2005.

The final fan poll results: Auburn (.9444), USC (.8622), Utah (.7356), Oklahoma (.5556), Texas (.5222), Louisville (.4689), Georgia (.4556), Virginia Tech (.4133), California (.2844), and Boise State (.2578)

Pigskin Fan Poll will host several more college football fan polls throughout each season, including pre-season rankings, and the annual NCAA National Champion.
